DONCASTER was hit by rails delays yesterday after vandals set fire to essential railway cables.

Trains travelling from Sheffield to the borough were running up to 20 minutes late as trains had to be diverted around the affected area.

The damage was caused around Masbrough, in Rotherham.

Some services were also missing station stops as a result of the vandalism.

Richard Lungmuss, route director for Network Rail, said: “I would like to apologise to passengers for the unacceptable delay being caused to their journey.”
