A Rotherham specialist equipment testing business has been bought by US-based MISTRAS Group in a deal said to show the global appeal of Yorkshire businesses.

Focus NDT was established in 1993 and has a strong presence in Aberdeen and Netherlands and is led by managing director, David Ackernley.

MISTRAS Group performs non-destructive and destructive testing to evaluate the structural integrity and reliability of critical energy, industrial and public infrastructure. It has 5,200 employees and more than 100 locations worldwide.

Matt Ainsworth, corporate partner at Irwin Mitchell in Sheffield, and James Hillman advised Focus NDT on the deal. Corporate finance advice was provided by Brendan Farrell of Premier Corporate Finance. Hawsons Accountants provided financial and tax advice.

Matt said: “MISTRAS is a significant international company and Focus NDT is an ideal fit. This deal demonstrates the strength and global appeal of businesses based in Yorkshire.”
