Urban Outfitters closes Meadowhall store over coronavirus as Sheffield cases rise to 12

Urban Outfitters has announced all its stores, including the branch at Meadowhall in Sheffield, are shutting as a precaution due to coronavirus.

The fashion chain announced over the weekend that all its stores would be closed until further notice ‘for the safety and precaution of the community’.

“We look forward to coming together soon, and we’re still open at urbanoutfitters.com,” it added.

The firm added that, as far as it was aware, none of its employees – who will continue to be paid during the closure – had tested positive for COVID-19.

It said stores would not reopen until at least March 28 but said that ‘because the situation is complex and evolving rapidly, our plans may change’.

Sharing the update via Twitter, it added ‘take care of yourselves’.
