Upmarket hotel will have 'high-end' rooftop restaurant with stunning views over Sheffield

The feature in the Radisson Blu on Pinstone Street will have a ‘unique urban design’ and ‘stunning’ views over the Peace Gardens, it is claimed.

And it will help sell the city centre to potential new commercial, retail and hospitality occupiers.

The details were revealed after hotel bosses and council chiefs signed a deal which will see a 154-room hotel in the former Palatine Chambers open in 2023.

The project is part of the £480m Heart of the City II scheme being run by Sheffield City Council and bankrolled with taxpayers’ cash.

No financial details were released.

The city council recently agreed to give John Lewis £3m to stay in its department store on Barkers’ Pool, as part of the project.

Adela Cristea, Radisson Blu head of business development UK & Ireland, said: “We’re very excited to be at the forefront of Sheffield’s regeneration project in a fantastic location at the heart of the city, as well as adding this vibrant new property to our selection of Radisson Blu hotels across the UK.”

Palatine Chambers has striking Victorian architecture. Pinstone Street was closed to traffic at the start of the pandemic. It is now a quiet public space connected to the Peace Gardens.

Coun Mazher Iqbal, cabinet member for business and investment at Sheffield City Council, developer of the project said: “Radisson Blu truly reflects the quality of brand we are aiming to attract with the Heart of the City II scheme.

“Offering stunning views over the Peace Gardens, we are confident the hotel will become a landmark of the city centre that will give visitors a great base for exploring everything Sheffield has to offer.”

Andrew Davison, project director at Queensberry, strategic delivery partner, said the hotel would play a key role in selling the Heart of the City vision to potential new commercial, retail and food and beverage occupiers.

He added: “In addition to the high-end retail and restaurant units on the ground floor, the building’s sophisticated rooftop bar and restaurant will deliver a new social dynamic to the city centre’s business and visitor community.”
