Uncertain future for vandal-hit Sheffield NHS site in Fulwood after second sale falls through

“There is no buyer or plans from a buyer at the moment”

A vandal-hit NHS site in Sheffield faces an uncertain future after a second sales process fell through.

The plot on Old Fulwood Road is back on the market after hopes of announcing a preferred bidder in May failed to materialise.

An NHS spokesperson said: “There is no buyer or plans from a buyer at the moment.”

It comes as residents report repeated vandalism and trespass in the buildings, which have been ravaged by fires.

The sale of the Fulwood House site was originally agreed in 2022. Developer Expresso Properties went on to submit plans for a £50m housing development.

The firm exited the deal in November last year after a sale contract expired. Despite this, its plans were granted permission last month.

Now, the NHS hopes the planning consent will give prospective developers “the clarity they need.”

The process comes under the Sheffield Health Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, the new name for NHS Sheffield Health and Social Care.

A spokesperson said: “The planning permission paves the way for the site to be brought back into use.

“It also gives prospective developers the clarity they need to consider investing.

“Sheffield Partnership is keen to secure a sale and reinvest the proceeds back into services that will improve mental health, learning disabilities and autism services for people in Sheffield.

“We want to provide high-quality spaces where we can support people and prioritise their wellbeing.”

On a local Facebook group, residents report frequent trespass and vandalism despite security, which some claim is costing taxpayers £5,000-a-week.

The site includes an eight-storey office block, Edwardian-era Fulwood House and several smaller buildings.

Fulwood House was wrecked in a fire in July last year. It has since been recommended for demolition.

The complex overlooks the Mayfield Valley, is on the boundary of Fulwood Conservation Area and is almost surrounded by green belt.

The NHS was contacted by The Star.
