Four in a Bed TV show contestants Craig and Marie Harris have quit their quaint Peak District pub, blaming high rent and poor trade.
Millions of viewers saw the couple, who ran the Peaks Inn in How Lane, Castleton, compete in Channel 4’s popular series last year.
Former Sheffield Council IT manager Craig, also seen as a contestant on MasterChef, had hoped that good beer and food would be the winning ticket when they took over the Peaks Inn in late 2011.
Craig said: “But visitor numbers to Castleton dropped sharply last summer. And despite the excellent weather, and coupled with everything else going up, we’ve gone under.
“The food side never really took off with the majority of customers preferring scampi to sea bream on crushed new potatoes and tomato vinaigrette.”
The couple are undaunted by their experience.
They are looking for a new pub to manage.
Craig appeared on the 2008 series of Masterchef when he was eventually eliminated after undercooking a piece of sea bass, angering presenter John Torode.
But Torode and fellow Host Greg Wallace encouraged him to keep up the cooking – and before Castleton he and Marie ran a foodie pub on the Isle of Wight.
