Will the spice be right for three city Asian eateries battling for glory in the National Curry Awards.

The Leopold Square’s Aagrah, Dore’s Almas Brasserie and Cutlers Spice in Gleadless are competing for the same regional title.

The winner of the Best Spice Restaurant in the Midlands region will be announced at the eighth annual British Curry Awards.

The ceremony takes place in London on Monday (November 26).

Another local finalist, Bawtry’s the Dower House, is hoping to take the North East title. The four have been shortlisted from thousands of restaurants voted for by the public.

Curry is an integral part of the nation’s social and culinary fabric; the industry is now worth £3.6bn and boasts 10,000 restaurants and 80,000 employees.

The awards, established by British entrepreneur Enam Ali MBE in 2005, have become a highlight on the UK social calendar, with Prime Minister David Cameron calling the awards ‘the curry Oscars’.
