Members of a rail union marched through Doncaster protesting against proposed cuts to the industry.

Around 300 representatives from the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers marched through Doncaster on Saturday in protest against the McNulty Report.

Protesters say they were demonstrating against efficiency savings in the rail industry suggested by the report published three years ago.

But the Government has slammed the RMT for ‘irresponsible scaremongering’.

RMT North relief regional organiser Sean McGowan said: “Our railways are paying shareholders major dividends at the expense of the taxpayer and cuts to the industry.”

A Department of Transport spokesman said: “This is irresponsible scaremongering by the RMT. We are spending record levels of investment transforming the network with £38 billion being spent over the next five years.”
