RAIL bosses say a dip in the railway lines in Doncaster was the reason for major delays to passengers travelling on the East Coast Mainline this week.

Passengers had an hour added to their journey times on the line from Doncaster to London while the necessary emergency engineering work was carried out on the line on Thursday.

A spokeswoman for Network Rail said speed restrictions had to be put in place while workmen were on site and apologised for the delays. She said the fault had been noticed by engineers who had been inspecting tracks.

“It was a fault on the trackbed which we had to sort out,” she said.
