Sheffield City Region’s most profitable manufacturers are doing better than ever, according to the latest Star Business/Sheffield University Management School Top 50 listing.
Every one of the top five profit makers recorded improvements, with Outokumpu going moving from losses of £9.9 million to a £21.9 million profit, while Danaher UK Industries, AES Engineering, Firth Rixson and Ballyvesey Holdings all showing improvements.
Others also improved further down the profits table, with refractory manufacturer Vesuvius UK transforming a £16.0 million loss into a £3.5 million profit.
Mechanical seal manufacturer AES Engineering began this year by expanding its pump supply and repair business, buying Sussex-based Absolute Vacuum for an undisclosed sum.
Three months ago, the Rotherham company - the world’s fourth-largest manufacturer of mechanical seals for pumps and other equipment - moved its pump division into international markets, buying Ultimate Vacuum, the Danish-based supplier of vacuum pumps, spares and other vacuum industry related products.
Ultimate Vacuum supplies the Scandinavian as well as the Danish market and is an official distributor for leading global vacuum equipment suppliers such as Edwards Vacuum, MKS Instrument and MPF Products.
