Sheffield's title of the world's best beer city has been reaffirmed after 30 of its pubs were named in this year's Good Beer Guide.

The book, published annually by the Campaign for Real Ale, contains 4,500 of the best real ale pubs in the UK.

This year's edition also includes six pubs in Doncaster and five each in Rotherham and Barnsley.

One of the newer names on the list is The Beer Engine in Highfield, which only opened in April 2015.

Assistant manager Lyes Slimani said: "It's the kind of accolade you want to be receiving. We are a real ale and craft beer pub.

"We get a lot of praise for our food but it's nice and really important that we are recognised on the beer side of things as well."

The selection at The Beer Engine is constantly changing and improving, with more to come.

"We have possible got four more keg lines coming in, which will improve the range we can serve, and we are trying to up the sort of quality beer that we can get."

Also on in this year's guide is The Nag's Head Inn, in Loxley. The pub is the tap for the nearby Bradfield Brewery, for whom Jackie Helliwill said it was 'great' to be featured in a guide 'that details the good beer in the city'.

She added: "With it being a brewery tap, it is there to showcase our beers, so it's important that it's recognised as a good beer pub. We want it to be the best it can be."

Sheffield was named the world's best beer city in a report by the University of Sheffield earlier this year. Jackie said the city was a great place for real ale drinkers.

"In the last few years real ale has grown more popular and more outlets are seeking to stock it than before. A lot more pubs are inquiring about cask ale, how it is served and how to keep it."

Dave Pickersgill, pub heritage officer for the Sheffield and district branch of the Campaig for Real Ale, or Camra, said there was no doubt about Sheffield's quality when it came to beer.

"Sheffield is the best place in the world to drink real ale," he said. "There is a daily choice of over 400 beers, available in an eclectic mix of pubs and bars. The best venues are showcased in the annual Camra Good Beer Guide.

"Congratulations to the pubs featured."
