It looks as American as apple pie, but Sheffield’s new rib and steak grill-house was dreamed up over a barbecue in a city back garden.
Former chef Steve Palmer-Smith first realised his dream of a quality rib, burger and steak diner at the Oasis in Meadowhall in 2009. But it didn’t work – “I was up against McDonald’s and the critical view of Martin Dawes,” he says. He persevered and in 2010 moved his Ribshack upstairs next to Cafe Rouge. And three weeks ago, he added a posh nosh version, Ribshack Classic in the city’s West One complex.
Specialities include babyback ribs in New York’s finest barbecue sauce and a 16oz rump. All meat is from the UK. Vegetables and breads are locally sourced, says the Granville College-trained ex manager of Meadowhall’s Rock Island Diner.
