Council house tenants in Misterton, near Doncaster, have been landed with a substantial rent increase.
Tenants of A1 Housing will be faced with an average of almost £4 a week extra to find from next month.
The rise was approved at Bassetlaw District Council’s budget meeting but was opposed by Misterton councillor Hazel Brand and was determined by the chair’s casting vote.
She said: “Though there were some parts of the budget that were acceptable in these hard economic times, I thought that rise too steep for the 138 tenants of A1 Housing in Misterton and West Stockwith.”
Councillors also received an apology from A1 Housing, for issuing letters informing tenants of the increase before the council had voted on it.
