Travel restrictions are finally lifting, and that means that creeping feeling of wanderlust can finally have an outlet soon. For two years you’ve been thinking of going away, and now it can finally happen.

But where? The US is so big that every state, every city almost, offers a vastly different experience. There is so much to choose from! Are you looking to top up your tan? Up the adrenaline dosage? Or marvel at what Mother Nature gave us? If that sounds good to you, take a look at our ideas for places to visit in the US.

For the sun worshiper

There is a lot that Los Angeles is famous for, and therefore its beaches often criminally get passed over. Venice beach has to be the most famous, and most popular, where you will regularly see buskers, street performers, and vendors along the famed Venice Beach Boardwalk, but if you head towards Malibu, you will come across the private and quieter Paradise Cove Beach.

If you want to swim or surf you can get access for free, otherwise you better buy something from the Paradise Cove Beach Café, but that iced coffee will be worth it when you feel the fine sand between your toes.

For the snow-capped Christmas

Colorado is a charming little state with delightful houses and friendly people, which only adds to the festive spirit that seems to emanate all year round. It is the place to be in the winter, where you can take advantage of the stunning skyscape, the rolling hills, and snow-capped mountains for some skiing.

Snowboard down slopes or hike across mountains to get the blood pumping, then head to your hotel to enjoy the hospitality of Colorado. Enjoy roasting marshmallows on an open fire in the reservation parks, where you might come across some majestic wildlife, or take a dip in one of the famed hot springs to rest some newly weary bones.

But you’ll need your ESTA to get there. Gaining an ESTA for UK citizens will allow you to make multiple trips for as long as up to 90 days, which will be perfect if you’re looking for an extended break.

For the nature lover

Sometimes simplicity is best. And what could be more simple than filling a van with camping equipment and maybe a mattress and hitting the road? The concept isn’t exactly new, but it is timeless. To really complete the cliché, you’d need a VW bus.

There are loads of routes you can take. Some aim to simply get from one end of the map to the other, for the challenge of it more than anything, but the US is filled with so many natural wonders, it would be a shame to miss them.

The Pacific Coast Highway is the best option for nature lovers, who will enjoy the scenic view of the ocean from the passenger side window. Starting at the Washington Olympic National Park, you keep driving this 1,650-mile journey all the way to sunny San Diego passing everything from rainforests to desert as well as Redwood National Park in California.
