The Silver Fox in Stocksbridge has gone on the market, with the sales brochure describing the premises as having ‘considerable scope’ for revival as a pub or restaurant, or for a range of other uses.

The two-storey stone building on Manchester Road reportedly opened as a pub in 1963 and reputedly takes its moniker from a pair of stainless steel foxes produced by the Stocksbridge steel manufacturer Samuel Fox and Company to adorn a train of the same name.

James A Baker, which is marketing the property, calls it a ‘substantial public house’, with a ‘prominent roadside frontage’ and a lounge with a raised stage which was previously used for entertainment.

Upstairs is a function room formerly used as a restaurant, plus private accommodation including three bedrooms, and the building is set within grounds of around 0.75 acres.
