Su carries on cooking despite Sheffield market alarm

Have your say

Shoppers at Sheffield’s Moor Market were treated to a cooking masterclass – with accompanying fire alarm.

Su Youdan, who runs S & J’s Pantry with her husband Jon, created some French-themed Yorkshire favourites in celebration of the Tour de France visiting the city.

Using ingredients sourced from nearby stalls, Su made spring soup, griddled beef with mustard and herby Yorkshire puddings for visitors to enjoy.

And she even managed to carry on when steam from the cooking set off a fire alarm halfway through the demonstration, much to the crowd’s amusement

And Su’s cooking won praise from those who sampled it.

Lynn Berry said: “I thought it was beautiful. The soup was lovely and creamy and I’d try it again.

“She did a really good job with the beef and Yorkshire puddings too.”

Cath Jennings, from Rotherham, said: “It was very nice, in fact I’m going to have a go at the recipe myself when I get home.”
