Sheffield University engineering student Ilya Karichev has become the first student to secure a place on a graduate sponsorship programme, launched by West Yorkshire systems integrator Cimlogic.
The programme targets students in their final year at Yorkshire universities and could lead to a permanent job.
Ilya Karichev is studying for a Masters degree in automatic control and systems engineering and gained the sponsorship after completing an internship with Cimlogic.
He said: “I have gained a lot experience from completing a summer internship at Cimlogic.
“It has enabled me to put the theory learnt at university into practice, with the help of some really experienced and friendly members of staff. It’s given me a real taste of what it’s like working for a control systems engineering company, and I’m really pleased that Cimlogic has sponsored me in my final year at Sheffield University.
“It will not only help me financially but it’s a great feeling to know that at the end of my degree I have a full time position at a growing company.”
Dr Robin Purshouse, lecturer in Sheffield University’s Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, said: “Ilya’s placement will have really helped to accelerate his team working skills and levels of commercial awareness.
“We strongly encourage our students to apply for both summer placements and our Year In Industry degree programmes to enhance their employability. Cimlogic’s internship and sponsorship scheme is a great opportunity and we congratulate Ilya on his success.”
