Irwin Mitchell which was founded in Sheffield in 1912 and still has offices on West Bar, is rumoured to be gearing up to float on the stock market in a move the firm hopes would value it at around £500m.

This morning (April 9) Sky News reported that Irwin Mitchell is working with investment bankers at Rothschild on plans for a potential IPO that could take place this year.

It would join just a small number of UK law firms that are currently listed.

An Irwin Mitchell spokesperson said: “We’ve taken no decision to introduce external investment. We remain in a strong position financially with our existing bank facilities offering us sufficient firepower to invest further in the growth and transformation of our business.”
