Entrepreneur Cheryl O’Carroll is urging others to follow in her footsteps after launching a business selling women’s accessories with a helping hand from Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce.

Cheryl’s company – Rubys Adorables – offers a wide range of leather and fashion handbags and fashion jewellery, sold through parties in people’s homes, events and an online shop –

She developed the business with the help of the New Enterprise Allowance programme, through which the Chamber provides free guidance and support to anyone who has been claiming Jobseekers Allowance for six months or more.

Chamber business expert Christine Millward helped Cheryl to develop a clear plan for the business and helped her to access vital funding.

“I found out about the programme on the internet and was guided to the Chamber by an advisor at the Job Centre, after I was made redundant from my previous job,” said Cheryl.

“My advice to anyone thinking of starting a business who qualifies for support is to contact the Chamber and get started.

“There’s nothing to lose and it’s better to have a go than not try,” she said.
