South Yorkshire sixth-formers stepped into the Dragons’ Den during a Business Awareness Day held by financial advisers Grant Thornton at their Sheffield offices.
A group of 25 teenagers from Sheffield High, Silverdale, King Ecgbert, Wales High and The Hayfield School in Doncaster were given the challenge of pitching a new innovative use for a cereal box.
They made their presentations to a panel of ‘dragons’ who were all managers from the offices in Broadfield Court.
The event, now in its third year, aims to increase young people’s understanding of the world of work. All the youngsters involved are studying economics or business studies and also took part in interactive workshops looking at different financial careers.
Director Peter Edwards said: “The event is a great opportunity to give young people a taste of the world of work as well as providing an insight into pursuing a career as an accountant or business adviser.
“They can talk with our trainees and executives to find out first hand what it’s really like.”
