More than 4,000 people have signed up to Derbyshire County Council’s energy switching scheme – which could save local people collectively more than half a million pounds a year.

The council is urging residents to sign up with Derbyshire Big Deals, the collective bargaining scheme which they say will get the best price on gas and electricity bills.

Each household registering with the scheme will be entered into a free prize draw for a chance to win free gas and electricity for a whole year, with three prizes up to a maximum value of £1,500 up for grabs.

Coun Andrew Lewer, council leader, said: “It is great to see so many people have signed up – the more people who join us, the greater our bargaining power.”
