A new flight service to Belfast from Doncaster airport had to be cancelled on its second day due to crew sickness.

LinksAir pulled the 70-minute evening flight shortly before it was due to take off for the Northern Ireland capital.

The incident came after the twice-daily service, with timings to suit business people, was launched with a blaze of publicity.

A spokesman for Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield airport said: “LinksAir unfortunately had to cancel an evening Belfast flight due to late notice crew sickness. Passengers booked on the flight were informed and rebooked. All flights are now operating as normal.

“Cancelled flights are common across the aviation industry, however the airport and our operators seek to keep these to an absolute minimum and as is common in this situation all passengers were informed and alternative arrangements were made.

“Other than the affected flight, all LinksAir flights departing from the airport have operated with 100 per cent on-time performance.”
