PEOPLE in Rotherham are being urged to dig deep to bring a bit of Christmas cheer to the borough’s less privileged children and families.
Rotherham Children and Young People’s Service is launching an appeal to provide Christmas food hampers and toys for Rotherham children and families in need.
‘Giving trees’ are being placed around Parkgate shopping park and anyone can go along, collect a gift tag and buy a suitable present for the age group and gender of a child specified on the tag.
Coun John Foden, deputy mayor, said: “We know that, although Rotherham is fighting back against the economic gloom, for some children and families this will be another difficult Christmas.”
Denis Copeland, Parkgate manager, said: “I’m sure our shoppers will respond as generously as they always do to this annual appeal.”
