XLN recruiter Joel Mellor said: “The demand for these types of roles is far outstripping supply at the moment and with only 10 per cent of developers actively looking for their next role, according to the Stackoverflow industry report, we are keen to engage with local people.

“The visits should take no longer than 45 minutes. We are keen to speak to people at various experience and skill levels and even if they aren’t actively looking for a role or we don’t have a position suited to them currently, we see this very much as an ongoing activity to build and maintain awareness of XLN’s software development roles across Sheffield and the wider region.”

In January, XLN launched a £1m upgrade to its office and a search for 150 recruits.

Since then it has filled 37 vacancies, taking headcount to 209. It has an ‘immediate need’ for a further 25 people in sales and service and three IT development. Bosses acknowledge there is still a “long way to go” to get to the 150 target.

The firm sells bundles of utilities for the nation’s 2.2m small businesses and says it “over-invests” in customer service to keep them happy. Most come to the firm after being let down by big suppliers, it is claimed.

Julian Przygrodzki, XLN brand director: “We are delighted with the continued growth of XLN since the expansion of our offices in early 2019.

“We are still keen to attract the best talent in South Yorkshire to our sales and support and software development departments, and the XLN Digital Drop-In is a great way for us to showcase the many fantastic careers we have available”

XLN founder and chief executive Christian Nellemann said over the next five years Sheffield would grow to become “three-fifths of the firm,” which is headquartered in London.

He added: “Five years ago we wondered how to get to the next level. We looked at Leeds and Northampton but Sheffield was a no brainer.

XLN has had assistance from Sheffield City Council.
