Now, Boohoo Group, the online retailer which trades as Debenhams and is also behind Karen Millen, boohoo, and Pretty Little Thing, has sold a distribution centre in Shepcote Lane to Primark Stores.

As well as setting up Primark’s home delivery ambitions, the move also fills in an substantial debt held by Boohoo and reduces what they owe to a “negligible level”.

Dan Finley, group chief executive, said: "The Debenhams Group turnaround continues at pace, and this transaction helps accelerate our progress.”

Associated British Foods (ABF) said it had bought space in Sheffield to support its plans, but did not specify a start date.
