Twelve employees from Wake Smith Solicitors are hoping to smash a target of one million steps in seven days and collect cash for the hospice.

The staff have been aiming for 12,000 steps per day over a seven-day period from Saturday, October 24 and are hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity, which provided invaluable care to colleague Helen Paul who died earlier this year.

The challenge will form part of the Night Strider Virtual Challenge which this year takes place throughout October and is ordinarily the biggest and most popular fundraising event of the year for St Luke’s.

Kate Lax, solicitor at Wake Smith and charitable board member, said: “For the past five years, Night Strider has seen hundreds of people gather together for one of Sheffield’s most popular walking events.

“ In 2019, there were over 1,000 people pounding the pavements in support of St Luke’s care.

“Now, with G overnment social distancing guidelines in place, St Luke’s can’t hold the usual event, so for 2020, supporters are having to make it their own and think of virtual and creative ways to take part.

“There are 12 of us in total so hopefully we can smash our chosen target of a million steps in seven days through walks, runs and exercise. It’s going to be tough but great fun.”

St Luke’s head of fundraising Joasia Lesniak said: “We know that our dedicated supporters are some of the most enthusiastic and creative people in Sheffield and that they will make this year’s event bigger, better and more unique than ever.”

Last year Wake Smith staff raised £6,400 for Sheffield’s Create A Dream Foundation after holding fundraising events including dress down days, a staff games night, running the Sheffield 10k, Great British Bake Off-style cake sales, sweepstakes, competitions, a tuck shop, lunch club raffles and a quiz night.
