Thousands of people in Sheffield have saved on electricity bills by being able to switch energy suppliers quicker, a report has found.
Figures released by the Department for Energy and Climate Change show that 48,000 homes in the city saved a combined total of £3.4m in the last six months, just by changing electricity supplier.
Sheffield came out on top across Yorkshire saving more money than any other town or city in the county.
The ‘Power to Switch’ campaign is urging people change suppliers for a better deal claiming customers can save £200 on average.
New reform of the energy market has cut supplier switching times from five weeks to 17 days while increased introduction of smaller energy suppliers is giving consumers more choice.
Energy and Climate Change Secretary, Ed Davey, said: “Switching puts money back in people’s pockets – and, thanks to our reforms, thousands are taking advantage of cheaper deals.”
