Sheffield homeless charity Emmaus wins vital cash aid to help cope with Covid-19

The fund was established by the couple in July to help charities in need due to the Covid-19 pandemic and has provided £18 million to support core costs for charities.

One of the successful organisations was Emmaus Sheffield, the drug and alcohol-free project that provides a home, support and work for homeless people in Sheffield.

One of its main income streams is its popular secondhand superstore in Cadman Street, Victoria Quays, which has reopened. Members work on restoring donations that go on sale.

“To have been awarded a £30,000 by the Julia and Hans Rausing Charity Survival Fund means so much to us,” said Emmaus Sheffield deputy manager Charley Fedorenko.

“The first half of 2020 proved a challenging time for both the charity and our companions but this level of support helps us to move forward with greater confidence and optimism.”
