Sheffield flats: 10-year plan for four towers on Ecclesall Road to be decided in days

A 10-year-old plan for 184 flats on a famous Sheffield street could reach a conclusion this month.

In 2016, Hallminister Ltd won permission for four blocks at 245 Ecclesall Road, near Pear Street.

In September last year it submitted a bid to change some of the conditions.

Agent NJL Consulting said the Building Safety Act 2022, in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster, had made the original scheme ‘unbuildable’.

Requested changes to the Ecclesall Road scheme include an extra staircase in each block, external materials, bike parking and bin storage.

A report by NJL Consulting also said the city council’s approval was “critical.”

“Noting Sheffield City Council’s current land supply position, it is critical that the delivery of consented sites such as this are facilitated by the Local Planning Authority.”

The authority was due to make a decision in December but asked for an extension until January 16.

An earlier version of this article stated that MAF Properties was subject to enforcement action by Sheffield Council for operating a car park on the site without permission.

It was also stated that MAF Properties had appealed against this to the Planning Inspectorate.

We wish to point out that this was inaccurate.

MAF Properties is not subject to enforcement action for operating an unauthorised car park, nor has MAF Properties appealed to the Planning Inspectorate.

We are informed by MAF Properties that it is not responsible for the car park in any way.

We wish to apologise to the firm.
