Sheffield bike lane plan moves ahead in race for funding

The party wants signage and infrastructure on the existing Sheaf Valley cycle route towards Millhouses improved - and extended past Millhouses Park to Dore and Totley.
The Lib Dems are also pushing for a route through Attercliffe, linking the city centre with Darnall, Tinsley, the Advanced Manufacturing Park and Rotherham. They say there is space to do it and commuters there are more likely to switch to bikes.

Hide AdSheffield City Council is trying to make Sheffield more cycling friendly due to government pressure, reduced capacity on buses and fewer vehicles on the road because of lockdown.
A bid for Emergency Active Travel Funding worth £2.2m to Sheffield has to be in by August 7 – and must be spent by the end of March.
Officials believe it will eventually pay for one permanent new route and one ‘low traffic neighbourhood’ where roads are blocked to severely restrict through routes, as is being trialed in Kelham Island.
A ‘pop-up’ cycle lane on Shalesmoor has been criticised for taking up a full lane for traffic. It is set to be removed in September.
