Public on Surrey Street in the city centre announced on Facebook it has shut “for the foreseeable”, with a reopening date as yet unknown. It comes after Tier 3 restrictions forced the closure of many hospitality venues in the city.

A post on the award-winning bar’s Facebook page read: “Huge thank you to all our loyal customers who adapted and supported us through lockdown, curfew and the household rule. You backed us all the way and that’s so humbling.

Under the new rules, only pubs and bars serving “substantial meals” are allowed to remain open.

Picture House Social on Abbeydale Road also announced it has closed.

Bungalows and Bears, The Red Deer and The Greystones are among other popular hospitality venues in Sheffield which have shut temporarily.
