Sheffield Motorpoint Arena is increasing its car park fees for the first time in 11-years.

But a new pre-paid system will allow motorists to pay in advance, which will be cheaper than on the day.

Ice hockey car parking will be £3.50 in advance or £4 on match days. All other event car parking, currently £5, will be £5.50 in advance, or £6 on the day.

The venue has space for 1,300 cars, with further car parking improvements to be announced in the coming months. Pre-paid parking will be available from tomorrow, in person at the Arena, online at or on 0114 256 5656.

The introduction of pre-paid parking follows a multi-million pound investment in the venue, including new seating and increasing the capacity to 13,600, making it the biggest arena in Yorkshire.

It will re-launch for the Sheffield Steelers v Nottingham Panthers ice hockey game on Sunday, September 8.

Since the venue opened in 1991 the car park has been paid for on entry and this is the Arena’s first increase in car parking charges since September 2002, said General Manager Rob O’Shea.

He said pre-paid parking was to give customers the best possible customer experience.

“Our car park can be very busy on event days. If we can give customers the opportunity to purchase in advance then they know they have a reserved space.

“Knowing in advance that all our car park spaces are sold means we can communicate this to customers, offering them other travel and parking alternatives.”
