Youngsters from Rotherham have won £16,300 for a project about the miners’ strike.

Kiveton Park Youth Centre members will investigate how the strike changed women’s lives.

The project, entitled ‘Raising Aspirations: The Miner’s Strike Through the Eyes of Women’, will focus on how women’s lives changed positively as they became bread winners, campaigners, political activists and went back into education.

Sarah Bellamy, of Rotherham Integrated Youth Services, said: “We are excited by the prospect of working with young people and supporting them to be active citizens with pride in their community and mining heritage.”

Work begins this month and will conclude with the screening of a project DVD in January.
