Doncaster pharmacy business JM McGill has saved a small community pharmacy in Barnsley from closure, with backing from Santander Corporate Banking.

Knollbeck Pharmacy went into administration in July 2010 and was due to cease trading in the next few months.

The deal has saved five jobs and led to the pharmacy being refurbished to bring it in line with other JM McGill premises.

JM McGill was founded in 2001 by Jonathan McGill, who has 22 years experience as a pharmacist and opened his first pharmacy in Balby in 1998.

Since then, he has built up a group of nine pharmacies, employing more than 90 staff around the Doncaster area.

Liz Pickering, from Santander Corporate Banking, said: “We are delighted to be involved with the refinance for J M McGill and the acquisition of the pharmacy on Knollbeck Lane.

“Jonathan has an excellent track record and I’m confident he will make a success of the new site, as he has with all the others in the past.”
