RENTS at Mexborough Market are to be discounted in a bid to attract more stalls at the site.

Newcomers are to be offered a stall free on their first visit, get their second visit half price, and their third visit full price.

The fourth visit will be free, the fifth at half price, and from then on full price.

Mexborough’s market dates back more than 800 years.

Stalls moved to their current location in 1975, into a purpose-built Market Hall and outdoor market in Mexborough town centre.

Mayor of Doncaster Peter Davies said: “Improving markets across the borough is one of my priorities.

“This rent offer is a great way for traders to try out Mexborough market before signing up to a longer-term lease.”

Ward member, Coun Sue Phillips said: “With over 90 stalls Mexborough Market has a fantastic range of goods on offer, from fresh fruit and vegetables to meat, fish and much more.

“The market is well supported by the local community and I would encourage new traders to take up this introductory offer.”

The full market is open is from 9am to 4pm Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Many traders in the Market Hall open six days a week from Monday to Saturday.

A second-hand market is held every Thursday.
