Market traders in Chesterfield have been handed a financial boost after the borough council agreed not to increase rents.
The rent freeze applies to stalls in the general and flea markets, farmers’ markets and Sunday car boot sale.
Council leader Ray Russell said thriving markets were vital to the town.
“Chesterfield is famous for its markets and they help to attract thousands of visitors and residents into the town centre every week.
“We’re keen to show our support to the traders in these difficult economic times and market stall holders have suffered from exceptionally bad weather over recent winter months.
“The freeze on rent will hopefully help in some way towards making their businesses succeed over the coming months.”
