SHEFFIELD Central MP Paul Blomfield has pressed Transport Secretary Justine Greening about tackling bottlenecks on the Midland Main Line railway so full benefits of electrification can be achieved.

He asked the minister to confirm whether the £500 million upgrade of the line would include resolving the problems at three locations.

Ms Greening confirmed that work would be undertaken at Derby and Leicester, but said she would write to Mr Blomfield to confirm proposals for Market Harborough.

He said: “We won’t see the cuts to journey times unless all bottlenecks are tackled.”
