Protesters fight Costa shop plan

CAMPAIGNERS in a Peak District town have collected hundreds of signatures opposing plans for a Costa Coffee branch.

More than 400 people have signed the online petition against the proposals for Bakewell town centre, which have planning permission after the firm successfully appealed against refusal by the national park authority.

The petition urged Chris Rogers, chief executive of Costa in the UK, not to go ahead with the 54-seat coffee shop.

Protesters fear the store will harm local traders.

Shaun Snow, from the campaign against Costa, said: ““The damage that will be done to the local providers is self-evident. Already they are struggling to make a living.”
