A Dearne Post Office could soon be relocated if a public consultation proved positive.
Mexborough’s Pym Road branch is set to move to Adwick Road Convenience Store which would mean a modern open-plan environment, an increase in opening hours to 91 hours a week and car tax added to the range of services on offer.
The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation.
As part of the plans to modernise the network and extend the service hours for customers, the new Pym Road Post Office would have three serving positions, a mixture of two modern screened positions and a combi-counter, where the Post Office terminal will sit alongside the retail till.
Should the move go ahead, the branch itself would be open from 9am-5.30pm Monday to Saturday with selected products and services available from the retail counter during shop opening hours, 8am-9pm seven days a week.
Suzanne Richardson, Area Manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Mexborough and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
She added: “This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
The consultation will close on September 18.
