Popular Sheffield music venue to launch craft community

A historic Sheffield music venue hit hard by lockdown is launching a new venture creating a craft community for those who want to learn new skills.

The Leadmill is launching a new creative branch of the business – ‘Makers Mill Sheffield’ with the first event scheduled to take place on Saturday November 14.

The event will feature an afternoon of crafty activities, a selection of drinks and snacks and relaxing music.A spokesman for the event said: “The socially distanced event (where you are able to attend with members of your bubbles) will run from 2pm through to 6pm, and include three introductory sessions from some of our city's most creative folk, who will be teaching the basic skills needed to take on what become your new favourite hobby.”

At this first event three ‘makers will deliver a 45 minute session, and the ticket priced at £30 includes you with all the materials needed to make your item.

The first event will feature Oakleacrafts hosting “Macrame Feather Wallhangings”.Beki, the founder of Oakleacrafts, has been deliveringworkshops in and around Sheffield over the past 20 years.During Beki’s workshop, you will be guided to create your own macrame feather wallhanging, as well as a demonstration of further hangings you could look to create after the session.

Helen Moyes Design will host “Dry Needle Felted Landscape”.Helen is a textile and mixed media artist in Sheffield, with a firm belief in the therapeutic nature of crafting and a passion for enabling others to be creative.

At Makers Mill, Helen will be hosting a workshop where you will learn to blend wool and use the ‘stabbing action’ to create your design of a landscape.

Laura Running With Scissors will host “Arm Knitting” a method of using big, bold stitches with only your hands. It can be used to make shawls, scarves and snoods.Tickets will cost £30 per person and this includes all three crafty sessions and the materials.
