Pledge to maintain Peak tourism

Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt met leading figures from the Peak District tourist industry to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the area.

Mr Hunt took part in a discussion with Visit Peak District & Derbyshire tourist board chief executive David James and chairman Andrew Pugh.

Mr James said: “We appreciated the chance to meet the Culture Secretary for talks.

“Tourism is one of the key growth industries in Derbyshire - generating an annual £1.4 billion of spending and supporting more than 25,000 jobs - and we are determined to keep the area at the forefront of any future national strategy.”
