Workers and management at Maltby Colliery have been praised by owners Hargreaves Services for successfully introducing new working practices which have improved production at the Rotherham pit.
The firm says in its latest trading update: “The new working practices at Maltby, announced in February, were successfully introduced in April and although only recently implemented, we are pleased to note that production consistency has improved.
“We will continue to monitor performance over the coming months. We would like to acknowledge the efforts made by staff and management to facilitate these changes.”
Hargreaves says recovering coal from ponds on the colliery site has helped to compensate for previously inconsistent underground performance.
Montagu Private Equity is reported to have abandoned plans to sell Maplin Electronics, because of the slowdown in retail sales across the UK.
Montagu bought the Rotherham-based electronics and gadget retailer and e-tailer in 2004 for £244 million.
