AVERAGE wages in South Yorkshire are among the best in the Yorkshire and Humber region according to new government figures.
The Office of National Statistics has revealed that out of 21 areas on the region, Rotherham has the sixth-highest annual wages, with an average of £23,839, while Sheffield is seventh, averaging £23,832.
Doncaster comes eighth, with an average of £23,824, and Barnsley is tenth, with average wages at £23,588.
The figures do not include self-employed or part-time workers.
The highest average earnings are in North Lincolnshire, at £25,840.
But the county’s position for overall household income is much lower, with the £31,171 earned by Sheffield households coming eleventh. Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham, where the average household income is around £28,000, ranked just above the bottom three areas of North East Lincolnshire, Scarborough and Hull. The highest household income was in Harrogate at £41,833.
