One of Sheffield's oldest businesses to build new factory on former Asda in Handsworth
One of Sheffield's oldest established businesses has applied to build a new factory on the site of a former supermarket.
The company has submitted plans for a new building on the site of a former Asda on Rotherham Road in Handsworth.
A supporting statement by Workspace Developments Ltd says the unnamed company has outgrown its current, outdated, workshops but wants to “maintain its historical roots in the city.”
It also aims to create jobs.
The statement adds: “Our client is looking to modernise and expand their operations as demand has increased. They require modernised and larger facilities which will result in the potential for increased employment in the area.”
It goes on: “The proposed high-quality development will provide an opportunity to grow for one of Sheffield's oldest established businesses."
The plans include workshops on the production floor, offices and showroom space.
A total of 22 parking spaces would be provided for staff and visitors.
The former Asda supermarket was demolished in the early 2000s.
