Next public inquiry set to resume after site inspection

The public inquiry into plans to build a Next store near Meadowhall was due to resume today.

The hearing at Sheffield Town Hall took a break yesterday while representatives of developer British Land, Sheffield Council and Planning Inspector David Wildsmith made a site visit.

British Land, which owns Meadowhall, wants to build the Next Home and Garden store, plus a car dealership and Costa Coffee bar on derelict land at Vulcan Road.

Sheffield Council has rejected planning permission, arguing the Next would harm city centre retailing.

Final evidence is to be heard today before Mr Wildsmith adjourns to make a decision.
