A brand from Down Under has travelled across the globe to open a new store in Sheffield.

Smiggle, which is Australia’s best known children’s stationery store, has set up its latest shop at Meadowhall, just in time for the festive period.

The store, which takes its name from a combination of smile and giggle, stocks innovative and fun children’s stationery items. It forms part of Smiggle’s plans to open at least 200 more stores in the UK over the next five years.

Smiggle’s managing director John Cheston said Sheffield had been prioritised as a key area for the brand to open from the moment the UK expansion plans began.

He said: “We have 11 years of retail experience and there is no other concept like Smiggle – anywhere.

“We know that the brand travels well and we’re looking forward to our first Christmas season in the United Kingdom.”

The arrival of Smiggle has brought more than 10 jobs to Meadowhall.

Further jobs have been created at the shopping centre this month after the opening of plus-size clothing retailer SimplyBe and Jacamo in the former Monsoon unit, and shoe store Ecco, which is set to open on November 20.
