John Cowling is the new chair of the board of trustees at Museums Sheffield.
John will take over from Gordon Bridge, who stepped down earlier this year after two years heading the charitable trust that runs three of the city’s main museums and galleries.
John will lead the board in working with chief executive Kim Streets to provide a first-class museums service for the city and support the ongoing development of effective, mutually-beneficial collaboration with businesses and organisations across the city.
The appointment comes at an exciting time for Museums Sheffield. In 2014 the trust was named as one of Arts Council England’s Major Partner Museums, securing funding of £1.8million over the next three years.
Museums Sheffield also recently successfully applied for almost £700,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to support a significant redevelopment of Weston Park Museum.
