Mystery surrounds future of two iconic Sheffield buildings after government leaves
Mystery surrounds the future of two iconic buildings in Sheffield after the government moves out.
The Department for Work and Pension is leaving Kings Court and Hartshead Square and moving all staff into No1 West Bar Square by early 2028.
It has signed a deal with leaseholder Sheffield City Council to occupy all of the eight-floor building on Corporation Street, which has capacity for 2,000.

Kings Court on Hanover Way is a landmark mirrored building on Hanover Way with a soaring overhang, seen by thousands of drivers a day. The DWP has been in residence there for well over a decade.
Hartshead Square, off Campo Lane, faces the Dove and Rainbow pub and is close to the Watson’s Walk tunnel leading to Castle Square and a large NCP car park.
The DWP has not not confirmed how many members of staff are relocating and has not yet revealed what it plans to do with the buildings.

It said nearly 1,000 jobs had already been moved out of the capital, but did not specify to where.
Last year, the government announced plans to sell 11 London offices and relocate 12,000 officials to 13 towns and cities across the country, including Sheffield, by 2030.
No1 West Bar Square has stood empty since it was launched in October 2024.
