MP’s fears over benefit ‘targets’

Have your say

A SOUTH Yorkshire MP has asked for reassurances that local Jobcentres don’t have targets and league tables for stopping the benefits of people looking for work.

The action by John Healey follows reports staff in some Jobcentres have been pressured to alter the number of jobseeker’s allowance claimants they sanction.

Writing to Jobcentre Plus managers in Rotherham and Goldthorpe, he said: “Sanctions can lead to destitution for families and make it harder to get people back to work.”
