SUPERMARKET giant Asda has announced £1 million plans to transform two former Netto stores in Sheffield and create 36 new jobs.

Former Netto stores on Catchbar Lane and Queens Road will close on July 30 and re-open in August as Asda.

The Catchbar Lane store is to open on August 15, and Queens Road the next day.

Asda said its revamped stores will stock more than 10,000 grocery products, around four times the number previously sold at Netto.

Customers can also expect to find Asda’s range of own label brands, including Chosen by You, Smart Price and Extra Special.

Current store staff will be transferred to the new Asda shops but a further 13 posts will be created at Catchbar Lane, while there will be 23 new jobs at Queens Road.

An Asda spokesman said: “Despite being small supermarkets, we think customers are going to be delighted with the new stores.

“We hope they will be bowled over by the range and there will be no price premium for anything we sell. The new supermarkets will also boast PayPoint, lottery and cash machines.”
